Don’t Take Our Word for It
"Chad is an excellent guide, comes prepared, works his a** off to make sure a good time is had by all and knows the bays like the back of his calloused hands...and he cleans the fish for you at the end of the day. ~Ian Craw - February 3, 2016
"I've fished a lot, but this time we went catching! " ~J. Smith
"I loved the fact that all I needed to bring were my snacks. Captain Chad took care of everything, from baiting my hook to cleaning my fish. It was amazing. We'll be back." ~F. Carter
"Our company fishing excursion would not have been a success if it had not been for Chums. I was so impressed with your knowledge of the area and where the fish bite! My employees said they will work extra hard to be able to do this again every year. What a great time we had!" ~K. Thomas
Your boat is in very nice condition. At first I was a little concerned since people warned me about fly by night fishing charters, but being a 6th generation Cedar Key native and seeing the great equipment you have made me feel at ease. Thank you for taking the time to work with me to land more fish. Your methods will last a lifetime." Sandy B.
Frequently Asked Questions
What type of fish can I expect to catch?
Our specialty is targeting Redfish (Red Drum) and Speckled Trout (Spotted Seatrout). Other species caught regularly are Cobia, Mackerel, Snook, Tarpon, Black Drum, Shark, Flounder, and Tripletail. Captain Chad will let you know what is currently biting, but if you want to go after a particular species, just let him know.
How long will my trip last?
When we schedule your outing we will typically follow the tide schedule for the best fishing. This means a charter one week may leave at 6:30 a.m. and the next week we may depart at 11:30 a.m. It all depends on the time of year, the current tide, and which fish are biting where. Captain Chad will let you know what time to be at the Cedar Key boat ramp. We are very accommodating to your schedule, so let us know if you have any special needs.
What if I don’t know how to fish?
We work with you on various fishing techniques and will walk you through casting and how to land your fish. If you are not capable of casting, Captain Chad will cast for you and hand you the rod. We go above and beyond to make your tour a memorable one. Additionally, we always bait your hook (unless you want to do it yourself).
What do I need to bring?
We recommend you bring a camera (preferably waterproof), a cooler to take your catch home, and whatever you like to eat or drink while on your excursion.
Do I need a saltwater fishing license?
While aboard, our charter license covers up to four guests, so NO fishing license is needed for either Florida residents or out of state residents. If your trip will have more than four people, we can work with you to acquire any additional licenses (Children under the age of 16 and resident seniors who are 65 or older are not required to purchase an additional licenses) .
Do I need to bring my own gear?
No, we have all the gear, tackle, and bait you need to land your fish. Of course, if you want to bring your own gear, you're welcomed.
Will you clean the fish that I catch?
Absolutely! We will clean them to your specifications free of charge.
What can I expect to see on this trip?
Manatees, dolphins, bald eagles, and osprey are just some of the local habitat you can expect to see while on the water. With lush nature preserves and amazing views of the local islands, Cedar Key is a sight to behold.
